I am not sure I would leave my bike locked to a parking meter.
Yeah, no kidding. In the hi traffic areas of SF they will steal every thing. This bike is worth a couple thousand too, according to my Italian interpreter. Luca, who waited on me at lunch, apparently road that bike from Stinson Beach to Mt. Tam, or what ever, all before 11:00 AM. That's if the translation was right. Be sure to look at that saddle. All the soft parts are gone -- there's just a plastic shell there. I imagine he stood up for that climb.
Oh -- about the meters ... they work pretty well. And they are everywhere. The u-locks are indefatigable and the freakin' meters are everywhere. Every once in a while you'll see a bike nailed to a meter with one wheel mising and all the loose crap gone.
